Why seasonal work in Australia?
Australia offers some of the most lucrative seasonal work opportunities in the world — with minimum award rates ensuring you earn significantly more than in many countries. The Fair Work Act sets minimum casual rates, overtime penalties, and weekend loadings that apply across all seasonal industries.
Snow Season (June–September): Australia's alpine regions in Victoria (Mt Buller, Falls Creek, Mt Hotham) and New South Wales (Thredbo, Perisher) generate thousands of hospitality, lift operations, security, and retail jobs each winter. Experienced snow season workers can earn $30–$55/hr in peak season.
Wine Harvest (February–April): The Hunter Valley, Barossa Valley, Yarra Valley, and Margaret River all recruit heavily for harvest labour, cellar door hospitality, and logistics roles during the vintage season.
Major Events: Vivid Sydney, Melbourne Cup Carnival, Adelaide Fringe, Sydney NYE, AFL Grand Final — each of these events creates hundreds of temporary shifts across hospitality, security, and event staffing. These roles fill exceptionally fast — often within days of posting.
Christmas & Summer Peak: December–January sees a surge in retail, hospitality, logistics, and tourism roles across coastal destinations. Major retailers begin recruiting from October for Christmas casual staff.
